History
Melka Oda General Hospital was established in May 2004 E.C. to respond to the growing healthcare needs of Shashemene town and its surrounding rural districts. Located approximately 250 km southeast of Addis Ababa, the hospital has grown steadily over the last 15+ years, expanding its service scope, infrastructure, and workforce.
From its early years as a limited-capacity facility, the hospital has evolved into a general hospital with over 100 beds, providing preventive, promotive, curative, surgical, rehabilitative, and teaching services. Continuous government investment and strong leadership have enabled the hospital to introduce specialist services, modern diagnostics, and innovative best practices such as oxygen-generation systems, Security service with CCT Camera, Ambulance GPS tracking services and model community pharmacies. With recent advancements—including the adoption of digital systems, improved infrastructure, and expanded clinical departments—the hospital continues its commitment to serving the community with excellence, professionalism, and compassion.
